Flue Gas Desulphurisation – Reducing SOx Emissions
Doosan Babcock can select the FGD technology that is most suited to the requirements of each individual project, recognising the importance of the integration of the flue gas desulphurisation process into the Air Quality Control Systems (AQCS) and the potential implications on Mercury and Particulate Control equipment.

Doosan Babcock can offer the solution to your SOx problems by specifying the most appropriate system for either new build or retrofit projects. For new build power stations our specialist team selects the most cost effective type of FGD plant as part of an integrated AQCS. On retrofit projects Doosan Babcock can assess the impact of the FGD on the boiler and auxiliary systems including minimising the time required for any outages.

Doosan Babcock can offer impartial advice on the main FGD processes, including:

  • Wet scrubber systems capable of achieving reduction efficiencies up to 99 percent
  • Spray dry scrubbers, also known as semi dry, which can achieve reduction efficiencies of over 90 percent
  • Dry sorbent injection, the lowest cost SOx removal technology and the most appropriate technology if large reduction efficiencies are not required
Doosan Babcock's expertise is showcased in the Drax FGD project in the UK - the design, supply and installation of one of the largest (6 x 660MWe) wet limestone slurry systems in the world.
