Doosan Babcock is recognised as the world leader in the development and application of low NOx combustion technology for fossil fuelled power stations. Since the late 1980's Doosan Babcock has supplied over 2700 low NOx burners for both retrofit and new boiler plant all over the world. This record is unparalleled and makes us one of the largest global suppliers of systems for the low NOx combustion of pulverised coals.

At Doosan Babcock we believe that the simplest and most cost effective way to reduce NOx emissions is to modify the combustion process. Our innovative Axial Swirl Burners offer a reduction in NOx emissions of 40 to 70% with no significant changes to boiler efficiency or operating efficiency.  This design provides a simple, robust mechanical solution that avoids the use of numerous mechanical links.  The burner settings are optimised at the commissioning stage and require no further optimisation for changes in coal quality. In addition there are no moving parts during operation over the load range. This type of burner has been retrofitted to many different furnace designs around the world covering a wide range of burner size (thermal input), burner arrangement, milling plant and fuel type. They have also proved extremely successful in combination with Doosan Babcock's Overfire air systems.
