Doosan Babcock's proprietary NOxStar™ technology is a revolutionary new NOx reduction process that employs the injection of reagents (ammonia and hydrocarbon gas) through a grid located in an existing cavity in the boiler's convective pass. This results in an autocatalytic plasma reaction that reduces NOx to benign nitrogen and water vapour.
The NOxStar™ process eliminates the need for the substantial volumes of solid catalyst that are used in traditional SCRs and the associated problems of:
- Increased pressure drop
- ID fan modifications or replacement
- Chemical poisoning
- Catalyst plugging
Used in combination with other available technologies, such as Doosan Babcock's Boosted Over-fire Air (BOFA) or a single layer of catalyst in the existing duct work (i.e. NOxStarTM Plus), NOxStarTM can achieve NOx reductions of 80 percent or more. This means that NOxStarTM can help meet any future environmental regulations and provide a permanent NOx compliance solution.
The compact and non intrusive design of the NOxStarTM system means that it can be installed on any type of boiler burning any type of fuel and needs only eight to nine months lead time and a few weeks' outage.
