Radioactive Waste Management and Disposal
Doosan Babcock provides waste management services to the nuclear industry and other industries that encounter radioactive materials. This includes a complete range of integrated services from advisory support through to waste processing and conditioning.

We offer a fully integrated service or individual services to suit client requirements. This covers all aspects of waste assessment, formulation development, disposal authorisation, processing, and transport. Doosan Babcock has Environment Agency Authorisations in place to enable radiaoctive materials to be managed at our Gateshead facility. We also have disposal agreements and generic quality assurance arrangements in place for the conditioning and disposal of low level waste (LLW) to minimise project lead time.

In addition, we manage the disposal of very low level waste (VLLW) and radioactive exempt waste via incineration and licensed landfill to ensure that best practical environmental options (BPEO) and cost effective solutions are provided.

We operate a range of mobile plants to retrieve, de-water and solidify or grout waste at client sites. For low volume waste producers, we also collect materials for processing and onward disposal, which can provide a more cost effective route.

We also provide decontamination and maintenance services for components which have become contaminated with radioactive materials. This ranges from pipes and valves contaminated with NORM/LSA scale to items which have been deployed within nuclear reactor environments.
