Doosan Babcock has extensive experience in the design of the integral bracing and integral supporting structures of boilers. This extends to and includes the suspension and restraining devices attached to the cold building structure, but does not include this structure.

There are no national or international codes covering the sort of structures concerned, and so techniques from structural building codes and in-house methods are used to produce a safe and serviceable product.

The services provided cover:

  • Calculating the weight of the boiler and its contents
  • Design of sling systems on which the boiler hangs
  • Design of restraint systems locating the boiler subject to seismic and wind loads and interfacing plant thrusts
  • Design of buckstay systems bracing the boiler walls against gas pressure excursions and combustion-induced pulsation
  • Design of all of the other miscellaneous structures supporting and bracing the boiler walls and internal heating surface
  • Mechanical design of casings for economizers and ash hoppers where these are integral with the boiler
  • Mechanical design of penthouse casings and any other remote casings
  • Production of technical specifications for purchase of relevant materials and out-sourced design and manufacture
  • Production or review of relevant parts of erection and operating instructions
