Design Code Assessment
At Doosan Babcock we have expertise providing a Design Code Assessment service to the power generation (both nuclear and conventional), petrochemical and general industries using a number of international and national pressure vessel and piping design codes, such as ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code, ASME B31, PD 5500, BS EN 12952 (BS1113), BS EN 13445 and BS EN 13480 (BS 806).

The services provided cover:

Stress Analysis - The stress analysis will be carried out by a hand calculation or a finite element analysis to provide a greater in-depth understanding of the component's behaviour.

Finite Element Analysis - If necessary, finite element models (2D or 3D) will be created using ABAQUS/CAE and the models will be analysed also using the ABAQUS solver to obtain stresses under all loading conditions concerned.

Doosan Babcock also has the ability to generate 3D CAD models using CATIA and import the models into ABAQUS/CAE. This can be extremely useful in partly optimising the design before reaching the analysis stage.

Stress Linearisation - Based on the stresses obtained, the critical sections can be specified as indicated in the figure. The stresses at the critical locations can be linearised, consequently, the membrane and membrane + bending stresses can be derived. The linearised stresses can then be compared against the allowable design stress intensities for the particular material and safety factor derived.

Assessment Results - The assessment results and conclusions will be reported in a standard Doosan Babcock report. If required, a refined analysis and assessment can also be carried out using inelastic stress analysis methods.
