Testing and Design Validation
Sophisticated testing and validation services are a core element of our business. Using the most advanced facilities and equipment we are able to verify the performance and design of not only our own products but also those of our customers who range from the operators of power stations to product developers. Our services give them the reassurance of knowing that existing assets are performing to the required quality levels and that all new products will be fit for purpose.

Testing is performed:

  • on site to meet complex test programmes, or perform spot checks
  • on full scale components in our modern purpose built facilities
  • on scale models and material samples in our UKAS accredited laboratories

The value of testing is strongly influenced by the quality of instrumentation, data acquisition, data processing and monitoring systems. We therefore have in house capabilities to fully instrument test items including strain gauges (static and dynamic application), thermocouples, load cells, gas sampling, pressure transducers, flow meters, metallographic replicas, ultrasonic probes, accelerometers, acoustic emission probes, microphones and linear variable differential transformers (LVDT).

On site test work covers many applications associated with environmental emissions, thermal efficiency and mechanical integrity at power plants, industrial complexes, civil structures and customer test facilities.

Our laboratories and test facilities are unique and include the largest burner test rig in the world (capable of accommodating burners up to 90,000 KWth), load testing up to 3000 Tonnes, pipe testing and a large creep laboratory.  Testing activities are supported by advanced techniques such as specimen machining and preparation, chemical and materials analysis and engineering.  We can also assess the results of physical testing in parallel with advanced computational models and analytical work.
