In the nuclear power sector, highly advanced and automated non-destructive testing (NDT) methods have been developed to ensure that critical components are free from defects which could threaten the integrity of the nuclear steam supply system. Periodic in-service inspection is performed by remotely operated, automated systems to verify that defects have not been initiated during operation of the plant. Doosan Babcock is the leading provider of pre-service and in-service inspection to the UK nuclear industry. The strength of our approach is demonstrated by our success in winning important contracts for leading nuclear utilities in France, Sweden, Switzerland, Argentina, Russia and Ukraine.
In the oil and gas markets (both onshore and offshore) Doosan Babcock contributes to plant integrity by programmes aimed at leak reduction, including risk assessment and surveys, noise assessment, plant dynamic analysis, rotating and reciprocating machinery, corrosion under insulation (CUI) techniques, and flow induced vibrations.
We employ the largest group of professional metallurgists in the UK. Our capability to select and weld steel to meet the required service conditions of the plant or structure is central to our business. Recently we have been at the forefront in working (with steel manufacturers) to develop and validate the new alloys needed to reach the higher temperatures and pressures for supercritical operation of steam raising plant. This leading edge work, combined with long experience across many diverse contracts, ensures we are able to "add value" on any problem arising related to the metallurgy or welding of pressurised or structural steel components.
