Doosan Babcock’s credentials as an innovator of cleaner technology do not stop at Carbon Capture. We are committed to developing low carbon and more efficient solutions such as biomass co-firing and supercritical steam generation.
Biomass Co-Firing Solutions
Doosan Babcock has the expertise and experience to provide effective and innovative solutions for biomass firing and co-firing at coal-fired power plants. Since the 1990s, Doosan Babcock has played a key role as original equipment manufacturer, plant upgrade project contractor or provider of specialist technical services, in assisting plant operators to implement biomass co-firing projects.
Our experience covers a wide range of biomass materials in granular, pelletised and dust forms, and has involved projects utilising the existing milling equipment, through to the direct injection co-firing of pre-milled biomass and the conversion of coal-fired boilers to 100% pulverised biomass firing. Doosan Babcock is currently involved in supplying twelve direct injection biomass co-firing systems, two for each of the six 660MWe boiler units, at Drax Power Station in Yorkshire, UK.
Once-Through Supercritical Steam Generator
Doosan Babcock is globally acknowledged as a leader in the design, manufacture and supply of Once-Through Supercritical Steam Generators, where significant investment has been placed in developing the technology to address issues of improving plant efficiency.
As a supplier of Once-Through Benson type boilers since the 1950s, Doosan Babcock has the proven ability to utilise and develop world-class technology to the changing market place and customer needs. The Once-Through Supercritical Steam Generator is the only type of boiler that can be used to operate at supercritical pressures – crucially important for modern, high efficiency, lower emission power plants. Both the ‘conventional’ spiral wound furnace and the modern vertical POSIFLOW™ furnace once-through designs are supplied by Doosan Babcock.
Doosan Babcock has supplied upwards of 40,000 MWe of supercritical boiler technology globally, operating at class-leading efficiencies as high as 45-47%.
