26 October 2011, Crawley, UK: Doosan Power Systems has won its very first turbine overhaul contract in the UK. This order is for Longannet power plant, the largest Scottish thermal power plant and the third-largest coal power plant in Europe.
The project includes delivery of two 600 MW turboset combined valve chambers to replace the original ones which were manufactured by English Electric, with an option for the delivery of another three valve chambers. The crushed coal combustion plant has been in operation since 1973, and the four production units produce 2,400 MWe.
The two valve chambers consist of welded structures with two emergency stop valves and two control valves in each of the chambers. The chambers are placed diagonally on the turbine‘s HP casing designed for admission steam parameters of 179.3 bar / 568°C. Part of the order includes control valve covers, control valve guide bushes and connecting components.
The project will be executed by Skoda Power, the turbo-generator business unit of Doosan Power Systems. Doosan Power Systems, which was selected by Scottish Power through a public tender, will start executing the project in 2012.
In addition to the above award, Doosan Power Systems has also secured the overhaul and inspection of the Unit 4 and Unit 2 steam turbines at the station. The works will be managed and executed by Doosan Power Systems’ Service business unit and supply chain partners, supported by Skoda Power.
