1881~1955Business Establishment
Back in the 19th Century, Babcock was a US-based pioneer in boiler technologies. Towards the end of the century it expanded into Scotland and formed a new UK company, whose headquarters are still based in Renfrew.

US-based Babcock & Wilcox Company opened a European office in Glasgow, Scotland.
Commenced boiler making and Singer Manufacturing Company works at Clydebank, initially using components shipped from the US.

Babcock & Wilcox Company formed a British company called Babcock & Wilcox Ltd.
Board members included renowned Scottish structural engineer Sir William Arrol and Andrew Stewart, of the Lanarkshire-based steel tubemakers A & J Stewart and Menzies, subsequently Stewarts & Lloyds.

Manufacturing facility at Renfrew, Scotland was established.
The new facility was based on the existing Porterfield Foundry.
1956~1981Expansion into Nuclear Power
In the 1950s, Babcock supplied technologies to the world's first commercial nuclear power station, the beginning of our long-term involvement in nuclear power in the UK.

Babcock & Wilcox Company supplied the steam raising plant for Calder Hall UK.
Our involvement at Calder Hall was the first of many similar projects at nuclear power plants around the UK.

Welding Skills Centre established to provide in-house training and development.
Our dedication to training and developing its employees in-house continues to this day.

Babcock Power Ltd was established.
Later renamed Babcock Energy Ltd.
1982~2005Privatisation and Globalisation
After our flotation on the stock market in 1982 we joined forces with a number of companies that had complementary goals and expertise to our own.

Babcock Energy Ltd floats on the stock exchange.
We became Babcock International PLC.

1987
Babcock International PLC enters merger with FKI Electricals PLC.
This merger formed FKI Babcock PLC.

1989
FKI Babcock PLC demerges to form Babcock International Group PLC and FKI PLC.
The merger was short-lived.

1995
Babcock Energy Ltd becomes Mitsui Babcock Ltd.
A 75% stake in our boiler manufacturing and energy services activities (known as Babcock Energy Ltd) was sold to Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding of Japan, to become Mitsui Babcock Energy Ltd.
We provide the steam generators for Sizewell B UK.
We were proud to be one of the main suppliers of components to Sizewell B and maintain a strong relationship with the plant to this day.
2006~PresentGlobal Expansion in the Doosan Group
In 2006 Babcock joined Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction to become a key member of the Doosan family.

Mitsui sold Babcock Energy Ltd to Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction, a subsidiary company of the Doosan Group of South Korea.
The UK company was renamed Doosan Babcock Energy Ltd.

2013
Doosan Power Systems UK Ltd was renamed Doosan Babcock Ltd.
In the same year we invested £20 million in our UK test facility and R&D activities, and expanded our presence in Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
